Alameda Garden Retreat Project Overview
This project is years in the making. Turning over and sheet mulching a tired lawn started the process of preparing the soil for wonderfully productive garden beds. This also made room to install a natural flagstone patio in back. The stone continues in the front creating a magnificent entry to the home. A cedar fence with an open design, as well as a whimsical trellis (designed by the homeowner) establishes boundaries, but still lets the light shine through.
The landscape is filled with low maintenance native plants, plenty of pollinator plants, and tons of edibles. Later, local basalt stone borders were built around many of the beds, and juniper was used to build raised beds for vegetables. This backyard retreat is a fantastic place for an avid gardener to spend her days.
